Some supports win fights with a big stun. Da Qiao wins them before they even start. She sends a wounded teammate home to heal, brings them straight back to the front line and drops a portal that lets the whole team appear where the enemy least expects it.
On paper she looks fragile and a little strange. In practice, a good Da Qiao turns every long fight into a fight your team cannot lose, because your side is always at full health and the enemy never is.
This guide covers how her kit really works, the build and arcana that keep her skills rolling, the famous “elevator” trick and how to plan your game as Honor of Kings’ most unusual roamer.
🌊 Who Is Da Qiao?
Da Qiao is the eldest of the Qiao sisters from the Kingdom of Wu, a sea mage who commands tides and koi fish. In-game she is a support mage who plays in the Roaming position.
Her value comes from three things:
- Two knock-ups from her koi skills to peel divers off your carry
- A personal “recall circle” that sends an ally home and lets them walk straight back
- An ultimate portal that lets up to five teammates join a fight from anywhere on the map
She is not a hero for solo carries. Her damage is modest and her body is thin. What she offers is tempo: your team arrives first, fights longer and recovers faster.
📜 Skill Breakdown
Passive – Law of Infinity
Da Qiao always has bonus movement speed. More importantly, when the koi from one of her two koi skills leaps over the tide left by the other, the tide explodes for extra magic damage and a short slow. Her koi skills also gain range as her magical attack grows, so a little magic power in the build is never wasted.
Skill 1 – Leaping Koi Tide
A koi jumps in the direction you choose, damaging and knocking up enemies along its path for half a second. It leaves a tide behind that keeps dealing damage for a few seconds, and Da Qiao gets a burst of movement speed when she casts it. This is your main peel, your poke and your escape in one button.
Skill 2 – Sea of Fate
The skill that defines the hero. Da Qiao places a circle that gives vision and resolves after four seconds. When it ends, one allied hero standing in it is sent back to the spawn point and cleansed of every debuff. From there they can take the portal at the Crystal to return to the battlefield.
If nobody is teleported, the circle leaves a marker that a teammate can touch later for a round trip home. You can cancel the marker, and if no hero was sent home, half of the cooldown is refunded. One detail that catches new players out: Da Qiao herself has priority in the circle, so step out of it unless you want to go home.
Skill 3 – Severing Surge
A second koi that sweeps from left to right across the target area, with the same knock-up and lingering tide as Skill 1. Its real job is to cross the first tide and trigger the passive explosion.
Ultimate – Eye of the Whirlpool
Da Qiao opens a whirlpool at a chosen location, damaging enemies inside. For eight seconds, up to five teammates can tap the gate to teleport straight to it, and allies standing inside get a shield. Da Qiao also gains an extra shield of her own.

⚔️ Best Da Qiao Build
Cooldown reduction is her lifeline. If Sea of Fate and the ultimate are not ready, Da Qiao has almost nothing to offer, so most players rush cooldown first and layer defense on top.
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Crimson Shadow – Redemption | Start with Knowledge Gem; the aura speeds up nearby allies’ attacks and cooldowns, and the active shields your team |
| 2 | Boots of Tranquility | Flat cooldown reduction so your circles come back faster |
| 3 | Frozen Breath | Magic power, cooldown and a slow on every skill hit to keep targets in your tides |
| 4 | Ominous Premonition | Heavy physical defense that slows attackers, great against marksmen and assassins |
| 5 | Venomous Staff | Cuts enemy healing and lifesteal, a must against sustain-heavy heroes |
| 6 | Sage’s Sanctuary | A revive in the late game, when one pick decides the match |
Situational Swaps
- Guardian instead of Crimson Shadow – when your team needs a survivability aura more than damage speed
- Succubus Cloak – against burst mages
- Dawnlight – shields you and the lowest-health ally nearby when your skills land
- Glacial Buckler – lots of cooldown plus a group slow when you take a big hit
- Overlord’s Platemail – extra health and regeneration for long sieges
🔮 Arcana and Battle Spell
| Arcana | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Fate ×10 | Health and defense so you survive the first burst |
| Void ×10 | Cooldown reduction, the core stat of the hero |
| Harmony ×10 | Health regeneration and movement speed for roaming |
Starting the game with cooldown from arcana means you reach the cap much earlier, which is exactly what a circle-and-portal hero wants. If you prefer a more aggressive mid-lane style, some players swap to damage arcana, but for roaming this page is the safest choice.
Battle spell: Flash is the standard pick for escaping dives or repositioning a koi. Heal is a solid alternative when you are glued to a fragile marksman.
🔥 Combos and Tricks
1. The Double Koi
Skill 1 ➝ Skill 3 ➝ Ultimate
Lay the first tide, then send the second koi straight through it. Two knock-ups plus the passive explosion and slow will stop most dives cold. Do it quickly: the tide does not last long.
2. The Peel
Skill 1 on the diver ➝ Skill 3 to follow up ➝ Flash away if needed
When an assassin leaps onto your carry, flip them with the first koi and keep them in place with the second. Do not chase. Your job is to buy time, not to get kills.
3. The Elevator
Skill 2 under a wounded ally ➝ wait for the circle ➝ Ultimate where the fight will be
This is the famous trick. The circle takes four seconds to resolve, so place it while your teammate is around half health, not after the burst lands. They return home, heal to full, then use the portal to come back into the fight, with your whirlpool ready for the rest of the team.

🌙 Game Plan: Early, Mid and Late
Early Game
Do not just stand next to your marksman. Use the first koi to help mid lane clear, follow your jungler into the enemy jungle and keep vision. Take one minute to tell your duo how the circle works, or the first accidental trip home will be theirs.
Mid Game
This is where Da Qiao shines. Give Sea of Fate to whoever is pushing a side lane: they push, go home, heal and come back without losing time. The enemy has to keep sending defenders, and that creates numbers advantages around the Tyrant and Overlord.
Late Game
Stand at the very back. Lay a circle behind your siege line before the fight starts so damaged teammates can cycle out and back in. Put your ultimate on a safe path or behind a wall near the objective, never on top of the enemy team.
🛡️ Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- Unique map control: full heals and teleports for the whole team
- Two knock-ups that shut down backline dives
- Huge impact on sieges and objective fights
- A failed circle refunds half its cooldown, so placing it early costs little
❌ Weaknesses
- Very low personal damage and a fragile body
- Sea of Fate is too slow to save someone already being burst
- Needs teammates who understand her circle and portal
- Struggles when two divers jump on her at once
🎯 Counters and Teammates
Da Qiao fears anything that can lock her down instantly or reach her from stealth. Donghuang can suppress her before she reacts, and Prince of Lanling can burst her out of invisibility before a single koi is thrown. Against them, stay close to your frontline and hold Skill 1 for the moment they commit.
She pairs best with mobile carries who love to fight, retreat and fight again. Garo, Lam and Li Bai are classic partners for the elevator trick, because they can jump in, go home through the circle and return before the enemy has recovered.
💡 Final Thoughts
Da Qiao will never top the damage chart, and that is fine. Her power lies in decisions: when to place the circle, where to open the whirlpool and which lane needs your team next.
Communicate, place Sea of Fate early, keep your koi for peel and think one fight ahead. Do that and you become the quiet player who decides how the whole match flows.
