Wang Zhaojun does not chase anyone. She does not need to. She sets a frozen trap where the enemy is about to step, slows everything that touches her and drops a blizzard that turns a whole teamfight into slow motion.
Formerly known as Princess Frost, she is one of the oldest and most reliable control mages in Honor of Kings. Her skills look simple, but playing her well is all about prediction: placing a freeze where the enemy will be, not where they are.
This guide covers her kit, the best builds and arcana, the combos to learn and how to play every phase of the match.
❄️ Who Is Wang Zhaojun?
Wang Zhaojun is a frost mage who controls the battlefield with ice. In-game she is a mage for the mid lane, and some players also bring her as a utility support or roam with her.
Her identity in three points:
- A delayed area freeze that locks enemies in place for a long time
- A chill effect that strips both movement speed and attack speed, which is brutal on marksmen
- A self-refreshing ice shield that makes her far tougher than a typical mage
The trade-off is clear: she has no movement skill at all. Positioning is her only escape.
📜 Skill Breakdown
Passive – Frozen Heart
After leaving combat for a short time, Wang Zhaojun gains an ice shield that absorbs damage. Anyone who hits her with physical damage gets chilled, losing a big chunk of movement speed and attack speed for a couple of seconds.
On top of that, every third basic attack fires three ice shards that deal extra magic damage. Use that empowered attack constantly in lane and in fights.
Skill 1 – Shattered Ice
Wang Zhaojun shatters ice at a target area, dealing magic damage and chilling enemies hit. She also gains vision of the area and of every enemy hit for a short time.
The cooldown is short, so this is your wave clear, your poke and your scouting tool. Before you walk past a bush, throw Skill 1 into it. If someone is hiding, you will see them before they see you.
Skill 2 – Frigid Prison
After a short delay, a frost circle erupts at the chosen spot, damaging and freezing every enemy inside for about two and a half seconds. Frozen enemies also take bonus damage from her.
This is the skill that wins games and the one most players misuse. Because of the delay, throwing it straight at a moving target almost never works. Aim it at where they are going: their escape path, the spot they will land after a dash, or right on top of someone who is already stunned by a teammate.
Ultimate – Winter Is Here
Wang Zhaojun calls down a blizzard on a target area for several seconds. It repeatedly damages and chills every enemy inside. Casting it also refreshes her passive shield, which makes it a defensive tool as much as an offensive one.
Use it to split the enemy team, to block a choke point before an objective fight, or to protect your marksman from divers.

⚔️ Best Wang Zhaojun Build
Wang Zhaojun wants cooldown reduction to keep her freeze and blizzard ready, magic attack for real damage, and enough survivability to stand her ground without any dash.
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Boots of Tranquility | Cooldown reduction for more freezes and blizzards |
| 2 | Scepter of Reverberation | Skill hits trigger extra explosions, plus movement speed to roam |
| 3 | Frozen Breath | Magic attack, health and even more slows on skill hits |
| 4 | Savant’s Wrath | A huge magic attack spike |
| 5 | Splendor | Brief invincibility when assassins reach you |
| 6 | Void Staff | Magical pierce against tankier enemies |
Alternative Choices
- Boots of the Arcane – early magical pierce if you want to bully the lane
- Mask of Agony – extra burn damage and health, great when you want a sturdier, more forgiving mage
- Venomous Staff – essential against heavy healing teams
- Sage’s Tome – a raw damage upgrade once the game goes late
- Holy Grail – mana and cooldown sustain for long lane phases, though it delays your damage
If the enemy has several divers, buy Splendor earlier. It is the closest thing she has to an escape.
🔮 Arcana and Battle Spell
| Color | Arcana | What it gives |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Nightmare ×10 | Magical attack and magical pierce |
| Blue | Hunt ×10 | Movement speed and attack speed |
| Green | Mind’s Eye ×10 | Magical pierce and attack speed |
The movement speed helps her rotate to other lanes early, the attack speed helps her reach the empowered third basic attack faster, and the pierce makes her poke hurt.
Battle spell: Flash. With no dash in her kit, it is your only emergency exit.
🔥 Combos You Need to Master
1. Maximum Damage – Skill 2 ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Ultimate ➝ Basic Attacks
Freeze first, then fill the freeze window with Skill 1, the blizzard and empowered basic attacks. Frozen targets take bonus damage from her, so make every second of the freeze count.
2. Bush Ambush – Skill 1 ➝ Skill 2 ➝ Ultimate
From a bush, open with Skill 1 to chill and slow the target so they cannot walk out of the freeze circle in time, then lock them with Skill 2 and finish with the blizzard.
3. Lane Poke – Basic Attack ×2 (pre-charged) ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Skill 1
Attack the minions twice, then hit the enemy mid laner with the empowered third attack and follow with Skill 1. Cheap, safe and very effective.
4. Self-Defense – Ultimate ➝ Skill 2 at Your Feet ➝ Splendor
When an assassin jumps on you, cast the ultimate to refresh your shield, place Skill 2 under yourself so the attacker gets frozen, and use Splendor if they still have damage left. If you survive and they are low, Skill 1 finishes them.

🌙 Game Plan: Early, Mid and Late
Early Game
Clear waves with Skill 1 and your empowered attacks. Your passive shield makes trades against physical laners favourable, so trade confidently whenever it is up. Throw Skill 1 into the river bushes from time to time to spot the enemy jungler early. At this stage, only use Skill 2 on enemies who are standing still, for example while they last-hit minions.
Mid Game
Once you have your ultimate, start helping the side lanes. When your jungler ganks, place Skill 2 on the enemy’s escape route. A landed freeze with your jungler nearby is almost always a kill. Before objective fights at the Tyrant, drop the blizzard on the river entrance so the enemy has to walk through it to contest.
Late Game
Your position is everything. Stay behind your frontline and never walk alone into unexplored areas. Place the blizzard to split the enemy team or to stop their backline from moving up, and save Skill 2 for divers who reach you. Focus your chill on the enemy marksman: slowing their attack speed and movement removes most of their threat in one effect.
🛡️ Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- A long area freeze that sets up kills for the whole team
- Chill cripples marksmen and melee divers alike
- A self-refreshing shield that makes her surprisingly durable
- Skill 1 gives vision, making her great at scouting and avoiding ganks
- Huge zone control in objective fights
❌ Weaknesses
- No movement skill: once caught, she rarely escapes
- Skill 2’s delay makes it hard to land without prediction or teammate setup
- Mobile enemies can walk out of her zones and sharply cut her damage
🎯 Counters and Teammates
High-mobility assassins are Wang Zhaojun’s biggest threat. Junglers like Han Xin can jump over her zones and reach her from unexpected angles, and stealthy assassins punish any moment she walks alone. Keep Flash and Skill 2 ready and stay close to your team.
She has an easy time against immobile heroes. Slow marksmen such as Luban No.7 are perfect targets for her freeze, and melee fighters like Lu Bu struggle to get out once their combo is spent. Teammates who land their own crowd control, or supports like Zhuangzi who keep the team moving and protected, make her freezes almost impossible to escape.
💡 Final Thoughts
Wang Zhaojun is easy to pick up and hard to master. Scout with Skill 1, predict with Skill 2 and use the blizzard to control the fight rather than just to deal damage.
Learn where enemies are going to step, and she will freeze entire teamfights in your favour.
