Loong Guide: The Ascending Dragon

Loong is a high-skill, stance-switching Marksman in Honor of Kings. Unlike other archers, Loong uses a unique “Dragon Soul” mechanic where his last two skills determine his combat style. He is incredibly versatile, offering true damage, healing, or crowd control depending on the elements he chooses.

The Elemental Mechanic: Hidden Dragon

Loong’s power comes from his Enhanced Basic Attack.

  • Dragon Soul Marks: Using a skill gives you a mark (up to 3). Your next auto-attack consumes all marks to strike the target multiple times.
  • The Primary Sword: The last element you used becomes your “Primary” sword, which dictates the special effect of your enhanced attack.
  • The Secondary Sword: The second-to-last element used becomes your “Secondary” sword, adding extra stats.

Skill Breakdown

Skill 1: Flaming Palm (Fire)

  • Effect: Deals physical and True Damage to 3 targets.
  • The Buff: Attaches a Fire Dragon Soul, adding flat physical damage to basic attacks.
  • Enhanced Attack: If Fire is primary, your first strike deals True Damage.
  • Use Case: Pure offense and shredding tanks.

Skill 2: Downpour (Water)

  • Effect: Deals damage and restores HP instantly upon hitting.
  • The Buff: Attaches a Water Dragon Soul, granting Mana and HP restoration on every basic attack.
  • Enhanced Attack: Each strike of the 3-hit combo heals Loong.
  • Use Case: Sustainability in lane or surviving a duel.

Skill 3: Riding the Wind (Wind)

  • Effect: Grants a decaying movement speed burst and knocks back nearby enemies.
  • The Buff: Increases flat Movement Speed.
  • Enhanced Attack: Each strike of the combo knocks back enemies.
  • Use Case: Self-peel from assassins or chasing down targets.

Ultimate: Infinite Vastness

  • The Transformation: Loong becomes a dragon, flying high and becoming untargetable for 4.5s. He can fly over walls.
  • The Dive: He crashes down, dealing damage and inflicting Fear (enemies run away).
  • The Buff: Increases attack range and speed, and his attacks hit two additional targets for 10 seconds.
  • Tip: You can switch elements while flying to prepare for the perfect landing.

Counter Matchups

Counter HeroWhy they win
GaroHer extreme range allows her to poke Loong down before he can get close enough to use his elemental skills.
Consort YuHer physical immunity (Skill 2) negates his burst, and she can poke him safely from distance.
Liu BeiAs an assassin-fighter, he can burst Loong down instantly. His ultimate’s CC immunity makes Loong’s Wind knockbacks useless.
ShieldunHis shield blocks projectiles and his heavy CC can lock Loong down before he can use his Ultimate to escape.

How to Counter Loong:

  • Bait the Ult: Loong is most vulnerable after his 4.5s flight ends. If you can survive the “Fear” impact, he is an easy target.
  • Watch the Colors: Look at the glow on his swords. Red = high damage, Blue = healing, Green/White = crowd control. Engage when he isn’t in his Fire stance for less risk.
  • Early Pressure: Loong needs items and levels to rotate his elements effectively. Bully him early to delay his power spikes.
