Di Renjie – Advanced Guide: The Magistrate’s Verdict

Di Renjie – Advanced Guide: The Magistrate's Verdict

Every marksman in Honor of Kings has to answer one question: what happens when an assassin jumps on you? Most answer with a dash. Di Renjie answers with a court ruling. He cleanses every debuff, turns invulnerable for a moment and then throws a golden edict that stuns the attacker and cuts their defenses in half.

That makes the Chang’an Magistrate one of the most forgiving marksmen in the game. His kit is easy to learn, his tokens find their targets without perfect aim, and he has one of the best self-defense tools any carry gets. But “easy” does not mean “simple”: the difference between an average Di Renjie and a great one comes down to two buttons and the timing behind them.

This guide covers his skills, the builds top players rely on, his arcana, his best combos and a full plan for the Farm Lane.

⚖️ Who Is Di Renjie?

Di Renjie is the Chang’an Magistrate, a detective and judge who hunts criminals with enchanted tokens. In-game he is a marksman who plays in the Farm Lane, dealing a mix of physical and magic damage.

His identity comes down to three things:

  • A passive that stacks attack speed and movement speed while he keeps shooting
  • Skill 2: a cleanse plus brief invulnerability, his escape button
  • An ultimate that stuns, reveals and halves the target’s defenses

His big weakness is mobility. He has no dash and no way over walls, so positioning is everything.

📜 Skill Breakdown

Passive – Swift Justice

Each basic attack gives Di Renjie a stack of attack speed and movement speed, up to five stacks. The stacks fade if you stop attacking, so the ideal state is “always shooting”. Every third basic attack throws a random token: a red one for extra damage or a blue one that slows.

Skill 1 – Respect the Law

Di Renjie throws a fan of tokens in a chosen direction. Red tokens hit harder, blue tokens deal less damage but slow. Extra tokens on the same target deal much less damage, so this is a wave-clear and poke tool rather than a nuke. The tokens can also trigger on-hit item effects, and the volley throws faster as your attack speed grows.

Skill 2 – Legal Immunity

Di Renjie throws tokens all around him, cleanses all debuffs, becomes briefly invulnerable and gains a burst of movement speed. This is the skill that defines him. It is not a damage tool; it is your life insurance.

Ultimate – Imperial Order

Di Renjie throws a golden edict that hits the first enemy hero in its path, dealing mixed physical and magic damage, stunning them for one second and cutting their physical and magic defense by half for a few seconds. The target is revealed, and allies move faster when running toward them. Land this on the right target and your whole team gets a free kill.

⚔️ Best Di Renjie Build

Top players rarely go full glass cannon on Di Renjie. The most popular approach keeps a fixed core of three items and then adds enough defense to survive long enough to keep the passive stacked.

SlotItemWhy
1Boots of FortitudeLess physical damage taken, which helps you win early duels
2Sparkforged DaggerAttack speed and extra on-hit damage for fast wave clear
3DoomsdayLifesteal and bonus damage based on the target’s health, great against tanks
4Deepfrost SiegeBasic attacks slow and deal extra damage, perfect for kiting
5Cuirass of SavageryDefense plus damage that grows as you take hits
6Blood RageHealth, attack and an emergency shield when you are focused

Situational Swaps

  • Boots of Dexterity – when you are winning lane and want faster pushing or jungle farming
  • Boots of Resistance – against teams with lots of crowd control, since Skill 2 can only cleanse once
  • Daybreaker’s Virtue – essential when the enemy has two tanky frontliners
  • Succubus Cloak – against heavy magic damage, usually replacing Cuirass of Savagery
  • Ominous Premonition + Succubus Cloak – a very safe late-game pair when you keep getting dived
  • Eternity Blade and Destiny – a crit route with a safety net, when the enemy frontline is weak

🔮 Arcana and Battle Spell

ArcanaWhat it gives
Red Moon ×10Attack speed and critical rate
Reaver ×10Physical lifesteal for lane sustain
Eagle Eye ×10Physical attack and pierce

Heavy lifesteal fits his “never stop shooting” style. If you want more mobility, a split of five Reaver and five Hunt adds movement speed, and against very tanky teams some players lean harder into crit and penetration.

Battle spell: Flash. Without a dash of its own, Di Renjie needs it both to escape and to reposition for the ultimate.

🔥 Combos You Need to Master

1. The Duel

Basic Attack ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Ultimate ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Skill 2 ➝ Basic Attack

Weave attacks between every skill to keep your passive at full stacks. Save Skill 2 for the moment your opponent lands their own crowd control.

2. The Teamfight Opener

Ultimate ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Skill 2 ➝ Basic Attack

Throw the edict at the enemy’s key target. The stun plus the defense cut is the signal for your team to collapse. Ideal targets are the enemy carry, or their engage hero just as they move in.

3. The Counter-Attack

Skill 2 ➝ Ultimate ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack

When an assassin dives you, let their stun land first, then cleanse and go invulnerable with Skill 2. As soon as you are free, send the edict straight back at them and finish the fight on your terms.

🌙 Game Plan: Early, Mid and Late

Early Game

In the Farm Lane, simply never letting your attacks stop is a strength. Every last hit stacks the passive, and the token on every third attack chips your opponent for free. Use Skill 1 for wave clear and poke, but watch your mana. Most importantly, never let a greedy trade bait out Skill 2: it is your only answer to a gank.

Mid Game

From level 4, the ultimate gives you a win button. When your jungler comes to gank, open with the edict every time. Once two core items are done, you start winning straight shootouts, so join every fight around the Tyrant. Always check where your teammates are before stepping forward, because you cannot escape over walls.

Late Game

Stand at the very back and hit whatever is in range. Keep your passive stacked and let your frontline protect you. The edict is also a great tool for checking bushes before an Overlord fight, since it reveals whoever it hits. When an assassin finally commits, stay calm: take the crowd control, then press Skill 2 and punish them.

🛡️ Strengths and Weaknesses

✅ Strengths

  • Excellent self-defense with a cleanse and invulnerability
  • An ultimate that sets up kills by halving defenses
  • Easy to aim, a great first marksman to learn
  • Strong sustained damage once the passive is stacked

❌ Weaknesses

  • No mobility and no way to cross walls
  • Only one cleanse, so chained crowd control can still kill him
  • A missed ultimate halves his teamfight impact
  • Random token colors make slows unreliable when chasing

🎯 Counters and Teammates

Di Renjie struggles against burst divers who can kill him before or after Skill 2. Heroes like Mai Shiranui and Ukyo Tachibana can close the gap quickly and chain their damage, and teams with several layers of crowd control can simply wait out your one cleanse. Against them, buy Boots of Resistance, stay close to your support and save Skill 2 for the crowd control that would actually kill you, not the first slow that touches you.

On your own team, Di Renjie loves a solid frontline and a jungler who follows up on the edict. A protective support like Zhang Fei keeps divers off him, while any hero with strong follow-up damage turns every landed ultimate into a kill.

💡 Final Thoughts

Di Renjie is the perfect marksman for players who want a reliable carry without fighting the controls. Keep shooting, keep your passive stacked and treat Skill 2 as sacred.

Land the edict on the right target, cleanse at the right moment, and the Chang’an Magistrate will deliver his verdict in every teamfight.
