Han Xin Guide: The Peerless Spear of the Jungle

Han Xin Guide: The Peerless Spear of the Jungle

Some junglers win games by out-farming everyone. Han Xin wins them by never standing still. He leaps over walls, knocks enemies into the air, spins a spear through the backline and is gone before the enemy team has finished turning around.

He is also one of the most demanding assassins in Honor of Kings. Every skill moves him, one of them moves him backwards, and his damage depends on counting basic attacks in the middle of a fight. Get the rhythm right and he feels unstoppable. Get it wrong and you are a fragile spearman with no escape left.

This guide covers how his kit works, the builds that suit him, the combos worth drilling and how to plan a game from the first buff to the last push.

🐉 Who Is Han Xin?

In the game’s lore Han Xin is a peerless general and a born strategist, a man who endured humiliation and waited patiently for his moment, then struck harder than anyone expected. In-game he is a physical assassin who lives in the jungle, and Smite is his battle spell almost every match.

What makes him special:

  • Three movement skills in one rotation, two of which can cross most walls
  • A knock-up on almost every part of his combo
  • Built-in lifesteal and attack speed that keep him healthy while he clears
  • An ultimate that ignores crowd control and cuts the damage he takes

📜 Skill Breakdown

Passive – Killing Spear

Every fourth basic attack knocks the target into the air for half a second, deals bonus physical damage and gives Han Xin a burst of physical lifesteal. On top of that, whenever one of his skills or his empowered basic attack lands, he gains a big chunk of attack speed for a short time.

In practice this means you should weave basic attacks between skills instead of firing everything at once. Count your hits: the fourth one is your free crowd control.

Skill 1 – Ruthless Assault

Han Xin leaps to a target area, damaging and knocking up enemies where he lands. For a few seconds afterwards he can leap a second time, but the second jump does not knock anyone up.

Both jumps can carry him over most walls. Look at the skill indicator before you commit: if it shows a pillar of light, that is where you will land, so you will not get stuck against the terrain. Many players also save the second jump to dodge line skillshots or ring-shaped damage zones, rather than using both on the way in.

Skill 2 – Fight or Die!

Han Xin dashes backwards, and his next basic attack within a few seconds becomes a wide spear sweep that hits everything in front of him. If that sweep happens to be his fourth basic attack, it also carries the passive knock-up and lifesteal.

The backwards dash is the hardest part of the hero. When you want to move toward an enemy, aim the skill away from them. The sweep can also hit through thin walls, which is great for stealing buffs or finishing a fleeing target.

Ultimate – The Unrivaled Spear

Han Xin strikes four times in the chosen direction. The final strike knocks up every enemy in the area. During the whole animation he is immune to crowd control and takes 30% less damage, which is what lets him finish a combo while the enemy throws everything at him.

⚔️ Best Han Xin Builds

Han Xin can be played two ways: a semi-tank diver who survives mistakes, or a pure damage build that deletes squishy carries but leaves almost no room for error. Both start the same way.

Standard Assassin Build

SlotItemWhy
1Rapacious BiteJungle item with attack, cooldown reduction and speed for fast clears
2Boots of FortitudePhysical defense and reduced physical damage, perfect for a melee diver
3Axe of TormentCore item: attack, cooldown reduction, health and pierce against squishies
4Master SwordEmpowered basic attacks after skills, crit and health
5Overlord’s MightA huge attack spike and extra damage on low-health targets
6BloodweeperLifesteal and health so you can win long, messy fights

Bruiser Variant

If you keep dying the moment you land, swap some damage for survivability. Frostscar’s Embrace adds defense and makes your empowered attacks slow the target (the Skill 2 sweep triggers it), while Blood Rage turns lost health into a shield, giving you the chance to turn a bad fight with your ultimate. Pure Sky is another good fit: attack, cooldown reduction, defense and an active damage reduction for diving.

Crit Variant

A greedier setup runs Axe of Torment, Boots of Dexterity, Eternity Blade and Master Sword to shred anyone caught by the fourth-hit knock-up. It hits extremely hard but expects you to play perfectly.

Late-Game Swaps

  • Starbreaker – when the enemy frontline stacks physical defense
  • Destiny – negates a fatal hit, ideal if you get burst down mid-combo
  • Sage’s Sanctuary – a revive for the fights that decide the match; a common trick is to sell your boots for it once you are rich

🔮 Arcana and Battle Spell

ColorStandardCrit Setup
RedMutation ×9 + Red Moon ×1Cataclysm ×10
BlueReaver ×9 + Hunt ×1Reaver ×10
GreenEagle Eye ×10Eagle Eye ×10

Mutation and Eagle Eye stack physical attack and pierce, so your ganks actually kill. Reaver adds the lifesteal that keeps you healthy in the jungle.

Battle spell: Smite, every time.

🔥 Combos You Need to Master

1. Early Ambush (before level 4)

Skill 2 ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack ×2 ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack ×3

Open with the backwards dash pointed away from the target so you close the distance, land the leap knock-up, then keep counting attacks for the passive.

2. Bush Pre-Charge

Basic Attack ×3 in a bush ➝ Skill 2 ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack (4th hit)

Attack the empty air in a bush three times, then dash in. Your first hit on the enemy is already the fourth, so it knocks up, heals you and lets the Skill 2 sweep follow.

3. Full Engage (level 4+)

Skill 2 ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack ➝ Ultimate ➝ Skill 1 ➝ Basic Attack ×2 ➝ Skill 2 ➝ Basic Attack ×2

The ultimate goes in the middle, after the opening knock-up, when the enemy has already burned a reaction. Your remaining mobility is then used either to chase or to leave.

4. The Quick Double Leap

Cast the second Skill 1 just before the first jump finishes while holding the movement stick. This cuts the landing animation and makes chasing, escaping and rotating much faster.

🌙 Game Plan: Early, Mid and Late

Early Game

Start from the blue buff: Han Xin spams skills while clearing, so mana matters more than the red buff early on. Put your first point into Skill 1 and max it first. While farming, land a skill and then three basic attacks before the next skill, so your attack speed bonus never drops.

Your early damage is modest, so the clash lane is usually the best gank target. It has more bushes and a wider layout, the enemy needs longer to run, and you can disappear easily if their jungler shows up.

Mid Game

Once your ultimate is online and your first core item is done, Han Xin’s hunting ground is the enemy jungle. Hop between bushes and over walls to catch farmers alone, then vanish. Before every invade, decide your exit route first. Do not open objectives blind: start the Tyrant or Overlord when the enemy jungler has just died or shown up on the far side of the map.

Late Game

Han Xin is at his worst standing in front of five enemies. Push a side lane instead. If two come, hop a wall and leave. If one comes, kill them. In teamfights, stay out of vision until the enemy spends their crowd control on your frontline, then dive the backline, kill one carry and leave on your last jump.

🛡️ Strengths and Weaknesses

✅ Strengths

  • Mobility very few heroes can match, including wall jumps
  • Knock-ups and lifesteal built into his basic attack rhythm
  • Crowd-control-immune ultimate with damage reduction
  • Excellent split-push and jungle invade pressure

❌ Weaknesses

  • Fragile once his movement skills are spent
  • The backwards Skill 2 punishes any input mistake
  • Short trades are weak because his damage needs the fourth hit
  • Struggles in front-to-back teamfights against grouped, tanky teams

🎯 Counters and Teammates

Han Xin hates instant, point-and-click lockdown that lands while he has no jump left. He also has a hard time against enemies who stay grouped and refuse to give him an isolated target.

On the other hand, his second leap can sidestep many line skillshots, such as Mozi‘s and Di Renjie‘s big projectiles, if you save it for the right moment. On your own team, any lane partner with a reliable stun or slow makes his early ganks far more likely to end in a kill.

💡 Final Thoughts

Han Xin is a hero about rhythm: skill, three hits, skill. Leap in, sweep, spin, and always keep one jump for the way home.

Early games will feel clumsy, but once the backwards dash and the double leap become second nature, few junglers put more pressure on the map.
